My name is Ciyanna Mohamed, I am a military brat originally from North Carolina. I’ve moved a couple of times but call Arizona home. I play softball for Buena High school in Sierra Vista, AZ. I’ve been playing softball since 2016 and participated in other sports such as basketball, cross country, and track & field. At age 12 I started playing in Little League Ponytails and enjoyed every bit of it. I continued on and played softball for my middle school and although we were a young and inexperienced team I always played my heart out. At one point, realizing that our team did not have a pitcher, I volunteered to pitch and became the primary pitcher within three weeks so my team could continue to play. At the end of my 8th-grade year, I received the Cardenas award for best all-around athlete. Since 2016 I have regularly volunteered as an assistant at the Ponytails clinics for the younger players and also assist coach for my two younger brother’s baseball teams.
My freshman year of high school I received MVP for the freshman basketball team. That year I also was asked to play catcher for my JV softball team. Even though I had no prior catching experience, I worked both during and outside of practices and had a really good season. Last year I played Varsity basketball and softball at Buena high school. Our softball team was number one in the region and number eight in the state. In Spring of 2021 I played for the Sierra Vista Ponytail 16U Black Diamondbacks. Our team won the 2021 League Championship. I currently play on a travel team called the Sierra Vista Diamonds. I primarily play left field but I also play third base and catch occasionally. On the field and the court, I am known for being fast. I’m undoubtedly the fastest person on the field.
I would love to continue my softball career in college too. My senior year I decided to play softball year round, as softball has always been my first love. When I’m on the field I feel happy and carefree. Even in my off time I’m still technically playing softball. I work at a training facility called Bombs Away. I am the only softball player who works there and physically helped set up for the grand opening.
Academically, I’ve always been strong in the classroom. I have achieved honor roll every year since elementary school. I’ve taken Honors and AP classes throughout high school. Maintaining an unweighted GPA of 3.6 and weighted GPA of 3.9.
After high school, I plan to go to college to pursue a career in physical therapy. Physical Therapy interests me because I enjoy learning about how the body works and how to make it even better. I also love to travel. I’ve been to many interesting places such as North Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Texas, and many other parts of the country. And I am excited to continue my softball career in college because I’ve always been on the field playing softball. I can adapt well on and off the field. I am a team player willing to step into the spotlight when I need to, and lead a team to victory.
