Hello! My softball career started at four and a half years old. I was sitting in the back seat of the car, my dad saw a sign for our local Baja League, and he asked me if I thought I’d like to play softball. My response was, “Sure!” At least that’s the story my dad tells me. I was four years old and don’t remember this at all. My earliest memory on the softball field is when I was a pitcher in Baja, and we were playing at a local park. I was pitching one game, and I walked almost every batter I pitched to. That’s how I became a catcher. Playing softball has taught me so many life lessons such as how to work with a team, how to work as a team player and how to be the best teammate I can possibly be at all times. Through softball, I have learned that I love working with a team, and I love to help others, whether that be on the field or in my day-to-day life.
I set high goals for my academics each semester. I realized that setting a goal to graduate with a 4.0 GPA would not work for me. The first time I received a B, that would be the end of it. So, I decided to set a goal of at least ending the semester with a 3.5 GPA. I set the goal before each semester. Even though it is the same goal each semester, it still pushes me to work hard in every class. Sometimes I reach my goal. Other times I have fallen short. When I have fallen short, it pushes me to work harder the next semester. After each semester, no matter if I have achieved my goal or fallen short, I evaluate what I did right, what I did wrong, and what I could do better.
One obstacle that I had to overcome to get where I am today is dealing with the passing of my mom. She died when I was eight years old. It helped me learn to trust others and open up when I needed to better my mental state. Opening up and establishing trust helped me get through school and continue playing softball. I still use each coping mechanism to this day. Two unique skills I have are pushing myself and being hard on myself. I don’t let myself be lazy and settle for meeting an expectation. I set high goals for myself and I push myself to achieve those goals. I pushed myself to be a great athlete, and to be a great student, which lead me to where I am today. Using those two skills can, and will get me far in my college and future life. Thank you for reading about me!Statistic | 2020 Varsity Team | 2019 Varsity Team | 2018 Varsity Team |
