Hello, my name is Ava Barrios, and I live in San Diego, California. I come from a family that loves sports, and you can always find them in the stands cheering me and my team on. I love to stay active and would play all sports if I could fit in the time. In 8u softball, my active mind decided that I wanted to pitch, and ever since then, I've been hooked. I thrive on constant activity and competition. I have dedicated countless hours to training, and I am excited about my continued growth in speed, spin, and pitch placement. I am a supportive teammate, and have made so many great friendships from this sport.
I just completed 10th grade at Christian Unified High School, in El Cajon, CA. I am currently the starting pitcher for our varsity team.
My freshman season, I was put on the mound, and proved myself with a win, pitching 5 of 7 innings. Second game, I had to pitch 11 of a 13 inning game. What a way to start off a season, going all the way to the CIF SDS DIII Championship match. We were promoted to DII for the 2024 season.
My sophomore (2024) season, we stepped it up! We finished 3rd in DII, and just got word that we are moving to D1 for the 2025 season. Our goal is to be in the Open division by CIF.
For the 2024 season, I was recognized:
First team all-league, and "Pitcher of the Year" for the Eastern League.
Second team All-CIF for the San Diego Region.
East County Sports, named me Pitcher of the Year.
Defensive Player of the Year, of my Team.
Most strike outs of any pitcher in Christian High School history, with 162 strike outs in 130 innings pitched. Ending ERA 2.30.
I currently play on a travel team called, Power Surge Walling-Pearlstein, based out of San Diego, CA. My main position is Pitcher, and I play outfield as well. Our club team plans to attend some showcases this fall & winter, also some national tournaments after the high school season.
I spend most of my time training in softball, but I also play soccer for my high school. It gives me a little mind and body refresher. My favorite position in soccer, is defense. I love to challenge my opponents forward and keep them from scoring. I am fast runner with a lot of stamina, so I often play mid-field, and give other players a break! I also enjoy working out in the weight room, to keep strong and healthy.
I have always wanted to continue to play softball in college, while I work on my higher education. I am excited to learn about your program and find our best fit!
