Personal Statement
My name is Alyssa Avalos and I am a Junior at St. Lucy's Prior High School. I am currently on the varsity team and have been since my freshman year. For the past several years, I have spent countless hours working hard to achieve the personal goals that I have set for myself on and off the field. In the classroom, I maintain my focus and put in a lot of hard work to make sure that I have a relatively high GPA and receive honors. On the field, I work hard year round to increase my skills. Whether it be with training with my travel ball coaches, hitting coaches, or even practicing with my dad, I always made sure to give one hundred percent effort and focus. All this practice and commitment to softball led me to have many strengths on the field.
I am a natural lefty slapper with a solid on base percentage. I have the speed to steal bases successfully and can cover a lot of fielding ground in the outfield. I also have a strong arm which allows me to make efficient plays or hold runners to a single base. There are more than just physical attributes that set me aside from other recruits. For example, on the field and in the dugout, I use my leadership qualities to lead my team in drills, chants, and I even go out of my way to help pick up the girls who are down because they have committed some type of error or struck out. I make sure that my team stays united and focused on our goals throughout the season. Our primary goal as a team is to win and make it to all the major tournaments, while having fun and growing as individual softball players.
As I look to the future, I hope to continue to grow as a player, a teammate, and an individual. My goal is to earn a scholarship to a college that helps me work on all three of those aspects. I want to attend a school that not only offers a competitive softball program but one that also offers strong academics and opportunities to serve and give back to the community. At the end of my college career, I want to be able to look back and know that I have helped strengthen the community, the college, the softball program, my team, and myself.
Thank You,
Alyssa Avalos
