My name is Kayla Rick; I am a Senior at Crean Lutheran High School, a private school located in Irvine, CA. I plan to major in education with a minor in history. The purpose of this statement is to express my desire and dedication to pursue softball at the college level. I have been able to grow tremendously as a person and athlete through all the amazing experiences softball has offered me. I have gained many friends, role models and mentors through the various teams I have played on and coaches who have assisted me in becoming the best player I can be. My goal is to play softball at the college level and continue to become the best student athlete I can be. I am not concerned with the level of play as much as I am being on a team at a college where we can mutually benefit from my presence. While my education is the ultimate goal, being apart of a team creates life long bonds with teammates and coaches and will continue to develop my strong work ethic, teamwork, character, and determination to reach my goals. Throughout high school I have been tested both academically, emotionally and physically. I assisted in the creation of the County of Orange's Anti-Bullying Campaign and I am the president of the Kindness Club at my school. Being active in my academics, sports and extracurricular activities has assisted my development with time management, listening, communication, organizational skills, and being able to handle multiple priorities at one time. Softball is often described as a game of failures. While this may be true in some aspects, it has driven me to pursue perfection and accept excellence, while never stopping to learn and grow from experiences on and off the field, in the weight room or working individually and in groups with my coaches. I challenge myself daily to get 1% better at whatever I am doing, whether it is athletically, academically or socially. One of my coaches told me, " The strongest people aren't always the people that win, but the people who don't give up when they lose." I feel this is true both in sports and in life and has helped me develop my never give up, never stop striving attitude.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.
