Hello, my name is Rachel McCarroll, and I can't imagine my day or life without softball!
I am an extremely hard-worker, coachable player, and focused student-athlete. I have been involved in athletics my entire life, but softball has always and will always be my favorite since I started when I was four years old. Early on, I decided I wanted to pitch. I fell in love with the position because of the technique and precision it requires and quite honestly, to be involved in every play I could. This required more time and dedication, which I took on with determination.
I am a senior in High School and the only three-sport athlete in my class. I play volleyball, basketball, and softball which I find compliment each other in physical and mental aspects of the game. I embrace the commitment and challenge of every sport I play and thrive in a competitive environment. Along with sports, I am just as focused and determined to succeed academically and have maintained over a 4.0 GPA throughout High School.
I currently play club softball for the San Jose Sting, under Coach Joe Gron for the 18UG team. Pitching is my primary position, but also play outfield and infield corner positions. I am a left-handed power hitter on both my club and High School team, as well. I pitch, condition, or train every day, to continue to develop and improve as an athlete. In softball, I want to be involved in and compete in every aspect of the game: pitching, defense, and offense.
As the middle child of three athletic girls and parents that played sports, I have been surrounded by sports my entire life. Growing up, my parents instilled in me to respect all aspects of the game- my teammates, coaches, officials, rules, and myself. I carry this value with me in all my sports and life, and strongly believe that determination, attitude and sportsmanship are the most important traits of an athlete and leader. I believe tenacity and resilience are especially significant, starting with a strong work ethic, maintain a positive attitude, and being a good teammate and team member. I can confidently say that sports have shaped my discipline, focus, and time management skills, which have carried over into many other important parts of my life.
In college, I am looking for an environment where I can pursue both my competitive nature and passion for softball and academics. I prefer a hard-working, disciplined, and ambitious team culture that aspires to work and win together. I also want to be part of a softball program in which the coaches and my teammates inspire and support each other, maintaining a close team dynamic on and off the field. A strong academic program is also very important to me. I have always enjoyed learning and am captivated to reach my potential in the classroom. Biology and Physiology is a primary interest of mine along with nursing. I am extremely excited to further my education in an atmosphere where softball and school are part of my college and everyday experience.
