My name is Tahlayn Fee, and I am a senior at Gunnison High School. Softball is my passion and I love the game with my whole heart, and would love the opportunity to continue playing in college. Dedicated and hardworking, I am always striving to get better, whether that be with softball or just every day aspects. Playing softball is very uplifting, and has been such an incredible and unique experience in how it connects me to so many other people. Through softball, I have been able to be a part of and give back to my community in many ways. I have been fortunate enough to coach 12U softball, play in adult recreation leagues, and continually connect with other players in similar age brackets through travel, recreation, and high school ball. Softball is a complex sport that challenges us both physically and mentally. We are driven to thrive as a team, and to strive to improve upon individual skills, which is something I really enjoy about the sport. Working with a team has taught me not only how to lift myself up, but also how to lift others up. Being able to step on a team of strangers and end the season as a family is not something every team can do, and yet by connecting with others and working with communication, I was able to experience this throughout high school. Playing softball has also helped me with many skills that are useful in everyday interactions, especially in the classroom and in work spaces. One of the most important lessons that softball has taught me is that even if you are good at something, it can always be improved. This applies to things in everyday life, and is especially prominent in my academics. For example, I have excelled in math since elementary school, and completed my required credits in the subject by the end of freshman year. However, it was important that I didn't stop working just because I met basic requirements. Instead, I continued taking math classes, and was eventually able to complete college level math courses. Just like in academics, softball operates in the same way. Just because a play was made doesn't mean it can't be more refined, and I am always pushing myself to be the best that I can be. My personal motto for softball is to be better than the last time I stepped on the field as a teammate and a player, and I will always strive to maintain this saying. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement.
