My name is Alyssa Alvarez and I'm a 5'4" softball outfielder. I play for the American Freedom Organization here in Colorado and for one of the top 2 academic high schools in Colorado, Peak to Peak Charter.
I've played club softball since I was 10 years old and that was when I found my love for the game. I started playing for the Colorado Stars under Rob Randolph, who is a great coach, and taught us the value of the game. When I approached the 14u level in 2017, I tested the waters with another organization and joined an older age level team, the Colorado Invasion, coached under Staci Kahl. There I found my personality was compatible with the older girls and continue to value what I learned from that experience. I learned how hard you need to work to gain respect and earn your spot on the team. The following year I rejoined Rob Randolph, now under the American Freedom organization. Three years later, I'm still with American Freedom, but am now coached by Bobby Matthews as a member of the National team.
In club ball, my average has been no lower than .404 and that was during my first year at 14U and has improved every year since. My highest average was .529 which was just last spring. My lowest OBP was .493 and the highest was .530. I've hit 23 home runs since 2017.
In high school softball, I made the varsity team my freshmen year. There my lowest average was .429, but my highest so far is .632. My lowest OBP was .529 and highest so far has been .660. Even with an abbreviated season, I am looking forward to building off of last years' stats.
In 2018, when Bobby Matthews took over the American Freedom Prospects, he brought us up to the elite level of club softball. We've learned a lot about proper college level etiquette, and we have played some of the best teams in the country. Besides the other titles we've won, the most notable are the 16u Pike's Peak Bracket in the Colorado Sparkler and 2nd place in the ASA National Championships.
In high school, I've been honored to win multiple player of the game awards, All-State Honorable Mention, Team MVP and All-League.
In all of my game situations that I have been a part of, I feel that my at bats stand out the most. I've batted lead-off, 2nd and 3rd, but mostly I bat in the 4 hole for both my high school and club ball teams. With fielding I can usually track the ball well and minimize any base advancement with my situation knowledge. I'm a true supporter of my team while in the dugout and have had no issues with any of my coaches or opposing coaches. I choose to let my play speak for me.
Now that my high school has been cleared to play during the pandemic, I'm eager to start my Senior year and am looking forward to making a statement upon my return.
