Personal Statement

Hello to all whom this may concern,

My name is Carissa Church; I am a sophomore at Stonington Hight School which is located in Stonington, CT. I plan to be a physician assistant in order to stay in a field that involves a lot of anatomy and information about the human body. The purpose of this statement is to express my desire and passion to pursue softball at the next level. I have been playing softball for almost over ten years and it has already offered me so many amazing opportunities and has connected me with fantastic coaches and players who I look up to as role models.  My ultimate goal is to play softball at the college level as well as possibly going to a professional level if I am offered. I am willing to put forth whatever it takes to become the best softball player I am capable of being and becoming. I understand that academics are one of the most essential elements of college. However, being part of a team and creating lifelong bonds, teamwork, and character play a major role in the college experience as well. Throughout my high school career, I have always tested myself with difficult classes. For example, both my freshman year and this year I have taken all of the honor classes that are offered at my high school and I have a chance of taking my french bilingual test at the end of this year instead of waiting until I am a junior or possibly a senior. I believe that the only way to get better at something is by working hard even when things might get a little difficult. This is why softball appeals to me so much because it isn’t always an easy game. It’s a game of precision, timing, focus, determination, and teamwork.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and statement.

  • Carissa continues to impress with her ability to adjust when needed and keeps a positive attitude every time she comes to the field. She is a great kid and very coachable. Defensively, she has shown improvements in her skill set but needs to work on replacing her feet on her blocking mechanics so that she can get over the top more and keep the ball in front. She has a good base behind the plate and works well with her pitchers. She is accurate in her throws to bases and is smooth to her transfer. Offensively, Carissa has an open set up and low hands in her bat path to the ball. She lets the ball travel and makes hard contact. Carissa will continue to improve and adjusts well when needed.
  • Camp/Event
  • Softball College World Series-Prospects Select Training
  • 5/30/19 to 6/02/19
  • Carissa returns to another Softball Factory event displaying her improvements. Behind the plate, she works hard for her pitchers but needs to work on some adjustments to her mechanics. She receives the ball with too much movement but if she works on sticking each pitch in the zone, she will start to steal strikes for her pitchers. At shortstop, she makes routine plays but comes up in her legs when moving laterally. If she stays low through each play she will create more range in her defense. Offensively, she swings hard every time and works the count to do her best to get on base. She has a square stance in the box and shows good contact to her pull side. Overall, Carissa works hard and with continued adjustments will do what it takes to reach her goals.
  • Camp/Event
  • Interactive Video Program-East Hampton(Hartford) CT
  • 3/24/19 to 3/24/19
  • Carissa is a 2023 right handed catcher and shortstop with a developing skill set. Behind the plate, she has effective footwork and tracks the ball well into her glove. She frames each pitch well and has a clean exchange on her throws to her target. She keeps her throws on line and gets over the top on her blocks well. At shortstop, she stays square to the ball and low in her legs through each play. She makes routine plays and keeps the ball in the infield. Offensively, she has a square and athletic set up in the box and a short stride to the ball. She stays center in her balance and makes hard contact to her pull side. Overall, Carissa has a great work ethic and will do what it takes to play at the next level.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
