Hi, my name is Gillian Birk and I live in Westport, CT. I am a junior at Staples high school and I will be graduating in 2017. I am 5 foot, 9 inches and 155 pounds. I play pitcher, first base and I can also play outfield, for my high school varsity team, and travel team, CT Legends 18U (affiliated with the Virginia Legends). I have been the starting pitcher for my high school varsity team since my freshman year, and I received All Conference Honorable Mention both my freshman and sophomore years. I was also voted a co-captain of my high school team my sophomore year, and for the upcoming 2016 season. Athletically, I think one of my best assets is my versatility. I can play multiple positions and can hit for power. I am willing to do whatever is in the best interests of my team. My favorite thing about softball is also the thing I have learned the most while playing, which is that hard work really does pay off. I have been playing softball for 11 years, and travel ball for 5. The past 5 years of travel have been such a great experience and one of the best parts is seeing the tremendous progress my team and I make every season. It is not only proven in the statistics, but also my knowledge and confidence on the field. Softball has been one of the best things in my life, and I aspire to continue to play the game in college. Although I love softball, my academics always come first. And learning about hard work through softball has helped me in the classroom realize if I want something, I can do it with hard work.
