If I were a coach of a team, the first thing I would say is, "My philosophy is to work hard, compete, and have fun at the same time. Winning is fun and you can only win if you put in the work first. There are no winners and losers, but rather winners and learners. If you believe your team was a loser because your score was less than the opponent, then you're a loser and not a learner. I believe if you choose to do something, you need to do it well. Do not do it for an award or for the uniform."
Ever since I got involved in the sport of softball, I have always wanted to learn and compete at the highest level possible. At the age of seven, I looked up to the collegiate level players, like Jessica Iwata, hoping to one day be playing at the level they were. On the field, I am a leader as well as a team player. As a catcher and middle infielder, I feel that I take charge and lead, making sure everything my team is doing is flowing smoothly. I have been an earnest student of the game, trying to pick up higher level softball IQ, wanting to decipher signals, and understand the finer nuances of the game.
What makes me different from other athletes is the ability to be adaptable on and off the field. I play multiple sports such as football, wrestling, and aikido in order to enhance my versatility in softball. I welcome being challenged physically as well as mentally. I believe in grit: falling down six times and getting up seven, perseverance, resilience, and endurance. All of these values will translate to life.
