I started playing softball at the age of 9. I saw my two older sisters playing, and I thought it would be fun to try it out for myself, but I was petrified my first time taking the field. Now? Softball is everything I do, from playing in recreational leagues, travel ball, school ball, and being an assistant coach for the middle school team at my school; I am always wanting more softball. Playing at the collegiate level takes hard work, dedication, commitment, and a love for the game.
I am always wanting to be the best person I can be, whether that be on the field or in my social life. Although I am not the best softball player out there, I know I can accept this fact because the only person that I am competing with is myself. I am an unselfish team player, always wanting more input on how I can better my ability. Softball is not a one-person sport; it is a sport made up with 9 sisters on the field, working together to attain higher goals. It does not matter how good I can try to make myself look, it's about what I can do to the benefit the team while doing the best I can.
Academics are very important in being an athlete at any level. I have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher all through middle school and high school, and I want to keep building upon this because if I cannot work hard to keep my grades up, I cannot work hard on the field. In going to a Christian school, they require all students to complete 40 service hours before you can graduate. I love volunteering around my school and home neighborhood because I get to meet new people, see how they live their lives, and see not only in myself, but others as well, just how much my service affects myself and whomever I may be serving.
Playing collegiate softball is my ultimate goal, but I do not just want to play at any college or university; I want to play at a college or university that feels like my home away from home, somewhere that I am free to be myself and play the sport I love. I want to attend a college or university that challenges me, both in the classroom and on the softball field. Whichever college/university I decide to call home, the softball field will be right there with me along the way
