I've played softball since I was 5 years old. I've played at the highest level in the summer, but honestly, I never realized how important the sport was to me until I spent 12 months not playing it. During my sophomore year, I spent one year completing physical therapy after having double Tommy Johns surgery. When you can't play softball, and it is completely stripped away from you, you realize how much the game and your teammates mean to you as a person. Whether you are playing with your super competitive club team or with your not-as competitive inner-city school team, each day you get to play is a gift. I attended physical therapy at least twice a week at 7:00 in the morning so I wouldn't miss school and I also maintained a 3.92 GPA through all of it. That's what makes me different than other candidates. I'm a fighter, extremely resilient, and strong. I know what it is like to work so incredibly hard on the field, off the field, and in the classroom, so I can play at the next level.
