My name is Riley Grant. When I started playing softball at the age of 7 I had all hopes and dreams of playing at a collegiate level. Softball gives me confidence. It has created life long friendships. In 2016, I began playing for the Southern Maine River Rats softball organization. This organization has helped me develop as a softball player and teammate. I started as a pitcher throwing only a fastball. Fast forward to today and I throw a fastball, flip change up, curve ball, knuckle curve, drop ball and I have a natural rise ball. I also play outfield.
My travel team has helped me develop a passion and love for the game. My varsity high school team as a freshman had helped me develop confidence due to stepping up as the number one pitcher due to an upper classman's injury. As a pitcher, it is one of my main roles to stay focused and positive because it can bring the team up in spirit and together as teammates.
In school, I participate in several clubs that help the community and children. In the Teen Trendsetters Club, we help kids at the elementary school with their reading skills and any other academic help they may need. This school year I helped a 1st grader improve their reading skills and to become more confident with learning. I also participate in the Dream Factory Club. This club helps with granting wishes to children who have life-threatening illnesses. A year ago, I participated in a candy cane making event at Haven's Candies. In which I passed out supplies for the families to make the candy canes.
My first two years of high school, I have made honor roll every semester. I take honors challenge opportunities when given the opportunity. My sophomore year, I challenged myself in Advanced Biology and in Advanced Algebra 2. Going into my junior year, I will be taking English Advanced along with Pre-Calculus.
