My name is Kristin Vargas and I am currently a junior at Walter Johnson High School. I have been playing softball since I was 9 years old. I became interested in softball when my parents took me to an MLB game at the age of 8, I realized it seemed like a fun thing to be a part of and a challenging sport that would push me to my athlete limit. I am a very competitive and determined player. I’m always putting 100% on and off the field, whether I’m on the bench cheering my team on or out on the field playing. Not only have I grown to be a much stronger athlete mentally and physically but also a capable person willing to take on any challenge that comes my way.
Two years ago, I was in a 14U team but it wasn't pushing me to the limit to become a better player and person. I had to make the difficult decision of switching teams and leaving my teammates and a great coach for a more competitive and challenging team, to be prepared for college ball. It was one of the biggest and hardest decisions that I have to make, from leaving my comfort zone to a different atmosphere with girls that were much older than I was and a more competitive team. But having a supportive family came into play with this change in my life. I believe that playing softball has helped me immensely into becoming a better person, a team player, responsible, disciplined, and to learn to work hard for what I want to accomplish in life.
