My name is Hannah Marasco and I am a current student at Century High School in Sykesville, MD (2025 graduation year). I have been playing softball since I was six years old and have loved it from the moment I stepped onto the field. When I first started softball, it was just another sport for me to try along with many others, but as soon as I stepped on the field and started playing, I knew it was the sport for me that I wanted to do forever. I started playing travel softball in sixth grade and continue to play to this day. My freshman year of high school I was a starter on the Junior Varsity team and received the Utility Player award by team and coach vote as well as the Slugger Award for batting over .500. This year I once again was not only a starter for the Junior Varsity team, but was also named JV Team Captain and selected to play in multiple Varsity games during the season and playoffs. I was awarded the Defensive MVP award and the Utility Player award by team and coach vote. I have a high softball IQ, a positive mindset even when things may start to go wrong on the field as well as good leadership skills to support my team. Softball has always been a wonderful experience for me with meeting new friends, helping me to become the best version of myself, and having the opportunity to support other people and being part of something bigger than myself. I am coachable in all aspects of the sport and always look forward to new feedback and critiques from coaches to help develop my skills. I always strive to better myself and will continue to work hard and look for new ways to improve as a player and a teammate whether it be extra batting practice or developing as a leader for my team. Softball has always been a big part of my life because of the friends, experiences, and opportunities it has given me, and it would mean a lot to me if I could continue to play the sport I love at the collegiate level.
In fourth grade I decided I wanted to try a new sport and landed on volleyball, so I joined a team in my local recreation program. My first coach worked extremely hard with me and gave me the confidence I needed to go out to play and be my best on and off the court. I grew to love the sport and continued to play until the pandemic shut down the program mid-season. I continued to practice at my house and then when it was safe again, I started lessons with my first volleyball coach up until my freshman year when I made the junior varsity team. My skills improved so much during my first high school season and when it ended, I went back to volleyball lessons. However, when I tried out this past year, I did not make the team. This pushed me to work even harder and I tried out and made a club volleyball team which I played for this past winter season and drastically improved my volleyball skills. Even though I was disappointed I did not make the team, it just inspired me to work that much harder and get better for this upcoming season which shows just how hardworking I am. Volleyball helps me with my strength and conditioning in the winter to help me stay in shape for the upcoming spring softball season. As much as I love this sport it will never replace the place softball holds in my heart.
In school, I work hard and strive to uphold my high GPA and grades in all my classes to increase my current and future opportunities. One of the reasons I push myself to do the best I can in school is so I can increase my chances of getting into college when I apply. Although it is especially important to me to do well in my classes, I also find it important to be involved within the school and community. I am part of Century's Future Farmers of America and competed in the veterinary science competition and helped with multiple fundraisers for the club. I was also inducted into the National Honors Society this past year. I decided to join this organization because they focus on helping to better the community, which is something I support by volunteering at a local horse rescue.
In college I am interested in studying Pre-Veterinary Science or Animal Science with a possible minor in Zoology. I have always loved animals and helping them to live the best life possible and the veterinary science field has always interested me. My ultimate goal is to find a college that fits me the best academically and athletically. I am willing to put in one hundred percent and work hard at everything I do, and I know that if I do that, I can accomplish whatever I put my mind to.
