Ashlie DeCarlo '12 Recruiting Profile

Hi! My name is Ashlie DeCarlo. I am going to be a senior at Gaithersburg High School in Montgomery County, Maryland. I am 5'5" and I weigh 145 lbs. I have been playing softball since 2nd grade and I have loved every minute of it. Ever since I was a little girl, stuck playing baseball with the boys, I have wanted to continue with athletics throughout college. Softball and sports are what I grew up with and what I love to do. Of course it would be my dream to play softball at a D1 level and earn an athletic scholarship but growing up in a travel team environment, I understand that there are girls out there at a higher level than me. D2 and D3 schools would still be and accomplishment for me and the programs are just as good. While I may not be an extrememly fast runner I am a very smart baserunner which helps make up for my slight lack of speed. I have played on the Varsity team at my school since freshman year. We came in second in the conference my freshman year and third last year. Both years we made it to the Regional Championship but were unable to win and move on to states. My travel team, Burtonsville Heat, did extremely well last summer, winning both Maryland and Virginia State Tournaments at the B level along with winning many other minor tournaments. I am an extremely hard worker and I have attended every winter workout and conditioning session possible in order to increase my skills. I also work outside of school with my pitching coach in working to perfect the different pitches that I throw. Since I have lived in Maryland my whole life I would prefer to stay on the eastern side of the country for college, possibly venturing out west slighty. I would love to attend a college somewhere south. Attending a large high school makes a larger college seem like home to me but attending a smaller college would be just as great and possibly a better learning environment with the smaller classes. I have been leaning towards an Athletic Training major but i am also interested in Psychology.
