I am Katherine (Katie) McHugh. I am a 5'10" catcher and third baseman and have been playing softball for seven years; travel-ball for four years. Ever since I stepped on the softball field, I loved this game. I also recently started playing volleyball and find a lot of my catching and fielding skills transfer well to this sport- but softball will always be my passion. My family has pushed me to be the best player and person possible. They have encouraged, supported, and built me up, so I could never doubt myself. My dad is always willing to play catch with me; my brother is able to set balls on the tee for me so I could get my repetitions in, and my mom (who is not the most athletically inclined) is always willing to shag balls and help wherever she is able. One important person that has pushed me the most is myself. I have worked hard and consistently to get where I am today. I can't wait to see where I am going. I always striving for straight A's in school because I know grades are essential for having a high quality education, for personal self-development and helping me achieve the goals I have set for myself. I enrolled in all honors classes in my Freshman year. My sophomore year, I completed AP Government and college Pre-Calculus. Currently I am enrolled in AP Calculus, English, and college Anatomy. I have never worked so hard for this dream of mine; the dream to play college softball, making myself and my family proud for all of the work we have put into hopefully playing at the college level.
I would be honored to play at the collegiate level. I would prefer to play at a higher-level competition school where I can become the best player I can be and strive for a starting spot on that team. I am very competitive and will push myself more than anyone. I am willing to do whatever is needed to help my team succeed. Currently I am playing on a very competitive travel ball team where we have won multiple tournaments. I have been the team captain on previous travel ball teams. I have a strong belief that if your team pushes each other to be better than the next player, it will make the team better as a whole. I consider that teamwork; and determination can make your team bond better, and your personal performance increase.
I would like to play more my freshman year, but I do understand that most underclassmen do not have a starting spot on the team until a couple of years into their college career, so I am willing to give up playing time to be on a more competitive team. I love to travel and am also very willing to go out of state. The population of the school and the location are not important to me. However, I would prefer a school on the East Coast and near shore and favor the South, but I am very willing to expand my preferences and options for the perfect academic and athletic fit. My interests and desire is to major in a field of science (biology, pre-med, chemistry, etc.), and/or mathematics. My goal is to earn an undergraduate degree at a college and then complete my post-graduate education while working and reach my goal towards earning a commission as an Officer in the U.S. Navy.
