My name is April Collamore. Both in the classroom and on the softball field, I take ride in my work ethic. Academics are a central aspect of my life, as I take all honors and some AP classes, and achieve high grades in all of them. I take my school assignments and exams seriously, in hopes of studying biochemistry, chemical engineering, biostatistics, or similar majors at a prestigious university.
While I have a strong academic drive, it does not hinder my dedication to softball. I understand that effort and endless hours of hard work are needed to improve myself as a player, and so I put in that time. I am the player who, while practicing drills, will carefully understand the details of the footwork, arm motion, and body position, adding to my noted coachability. I am always delighted to learn new skills, and will work with my coaches to master and best understand them. I never question my coaches' decisions, and always put full trust in them, as I know that they are working to help me become a better player, and so they deserve my upmost kindness and respect. I was even granted the coaches award after both my freshman year of the 2019 Westford Academy Varsity Softball season, and my Northeast Hurricanes 16U club season.
Lastly, I feel that two of the most crucial aspects of a successful softball team are leadership and team chemistry. In regards to leadership, I feel that the perfect team has many players who are not afraid to take chances, will pick up their teammates, are vocal on the field, and will do anything to help and support one another. I was nominated captain of my Northeast Hurricanes 18U Elite team this year and last. I work to lead by example, as I believe that the best leaders are those who teach others through both their words and actions. My goal is to be on a team full of captains; I want input from all, and for everyone to be a leader. A team of captains is often one with strong team chemistry, which I aspire for in my college team. While winning is the goal, nothing is better than a team that laughs together, cheers each other on, high fives each other, and helps each other be the best they can be—a team that acts as a second family.
