Hi there! My name is Jenna and I am a 2025 graduate. I have loved softball since I was eight and playing in college has always been a big goal of mine. I watch college softball on the big screen and think "I'm gonna be there someday". My love for the game, hard work, and motivating friends and family have helped get me to where I am today. I am human, so I have faced challenges before. I tore my labrum and had to have surgery in the beginning of 2021. The fear of getting hurt again and the work it takes to get back might scare some people. However, this is where my real desire started to show. Being out only made me want the game more. As soon as I could, I started playing catch and hitting again. I wanted so bad to get back in the game that I worked twice as hard just to prove to myself that I could do it. I will continue to work harder and harder to reach my goal of college softball, but reaching my goal does not mean I will stop working.
I put 110% effort into everything I do. Whether it’s sports or school, I work as hard as I physically and mentally can. Education is a top priority for me. I am a straight A student that can balance school and sports. I always get my work done before I relax and can manage my time really well. I go to the gym everyday, have practice, work by myself, and still maintain a 4.0 gpa. I have a strong work ethic, I am responsible, and I try to lead by example. I believe that your actions speak louder than your words, and that the characteristics of a leader aren’t just telling people what to do. My version of leadership isn’t trying to take control. I think you have to earn the right to be a leader in the way you act. Leaders not only help the team, they help individual players. They have earned the respect and trust of the teammates, coworkers, or friends. Not only do I try to lead in sports, I try to lead in academics. I love working in groups and meeting new people. I love to help my team to victory or success. I just love knowing that I helped my team or group improve in some way. I work to make differences with any group that I come in contact with. It could be in an office, on the field, in a school project. I put my effort into helping others, and myself in the process. Whether it’s cheering on the batter, getting a base hit or an rbi, making a saving play, or hitting in the game winning run, I will make a difference. I can work well under pressure, so I can stay calm in a stressful situation. I will dive for a ball that looks like it’s going to drop or get in the gap. I will go all out to make that play or get that hit. I go the extra mile to make sure that I succeed and will use others' advice and coaching to help me get there.
In college, I want to better myself, while still helping others around me. I want to become a better leader, learner, and all around better person. My goals are to be smarter, not only in school, but in softball too. I love to learn just for the sake of learning and understanding. It’s a plus that I love softball just as much. I know I will face more challenges and that the road ahead of me is not smooth. I will work, not to avoid adversity, but to persevere through it.
