I’ve been playing softball ever since I was in third grade, and have dreamt of playing in college ever since. I started out on third base. But my coaches have moved me around a lot from different outfield positions, to first base last year because our original first baseman got injured. I can track the ball well on pop flies and I have a lot of power at the plate. If I can perfect my form, I am sure that I can hit it over the fence consistently. I have a good arm, which is what allows me to be so versatile with my positions. Since freshman year I have technically been on varsity, but I did not really play as much freshman year, I was more of a back up if someone got hurt. The past couple years however, I have played much more and started all of last year.
Academically, I have an 11.7 GPA on an 11 point scale. I am in many clubs and extracurricular activities, but the ones that take up most of my time are Band, Academic bowl, and National Honor Society. In band, I am section leader of the drum line and act as an officer. For the Academic Bowl, I am the captain of our team. In the National Honor Society, I help pack the food bags we send home with some of the kids.
I also have experience in other sports as well. These consist of basketball from fifth grade to the end of sophomore year, and volleyball from 5th grade to the end of junior year. I played a few varsity minutes for basketball, but a majority of my time for both sports were spent on Junior Varsity.
I believe I would do well playing college ball for the following reasons. I work hard in practice because I want to improve each day both mentally and physically. I am great at cheering on my teammates and keeping them encouraged. It has always been an important aspect at my school and has become second nature. Finally, I do well juggling multiple things at once. Having practices, homework, and a social life all at once come very easily to me. Actually I am very confident that it even helps me focus easier. Softball is very important to me and I would hate for it to be over after I graduate, so thank you for your time and consideration for me as a candidate.
