My name is Claire Ramsey and I am currently a junior at Oran High School. My twin sister and I started playing tee-ball at age 4 and it has been a big part of my life ever since. Softball has helped me grow on and off the field. It has made me a stronger student in the classroom and also a better athlete.
Since my Freshmen year I have primarily started as a catcher but have also played third base. For my Junior season I was voted first team all conference, all-district, and all-regional as a catcher. I was also selected as our team MVP as a Junior. As a sophomore I was voted first team all-conference and honorable mention all-district. For our team I was given the sacrifice for success award as a sophomore. As a freshman I was voted first team all-conference, all-district, and all-regional. For our team I was given the sacrifice for success award as a freshmen.
This year our Class 2 team lost 4 to 3 in spring districts to Class 3 Park Hills who advanced to the final four. During the regular season our team beat Kennett, Malden and Portageville, all teams which won their respective districts. Last year (2017) our team lost in our district championship 6 to 7.
I started on varsity at guard my Junior season for our quarter finalist basketball team and was selected for the team assist leader. I started on varsity at guard for our final four basketball team as Sophomore and was awarded the hustle award by the team. For my freshmen year in basketball I was voted defensive MVP for my junior varsity basketball team. I also played varsity basketball as the sixth man. For basketball we were district champions and made a new school record for most wins.
Being a multi-sport athlete and still achieving the number one rank in my class shows that I am driven and can manage my time well. I take education very seriously and one of my goals is to be valedictorian when I graduate. I am a leader on and off the field. I was the president of my freshman class. Also, I participate in the national BETA club, FBLA, FCCLA, and FCA. I am active in Junior Achievement where I mentor students in 4th and 6th grade at Oran. I also completed my confirmation class at St. Paul Lutheran Church in May of 2015.
My academic achievements include being 8th grade valedictorian. I am currently ranked number one in my class in my Junior year with an 11.0 grade average. I scored a 25 on my ACT taken in February 2018.
I have volunteered extensively at Hunter Acres Caring Center where my mom worked as Director of Nursing. I have also volunteered at the Cape Girardeau Fire Department where my dad is Battalion Chief of Personnel Services.
I plan on pursuing a career in the medical field. I am looking for an educational opportunity that will help me in furthering my education with this goal in mind. I am also looking for a softball experience that will allow me to compete and grow as an individual.
