I have been playing select softball for over 8 years now and over the years, I have learned some very valuable lessons. I have learned how to be a leader by leading team huddles and cheering my teammates on when everyone is down. I have also learned how to take responsibility for myself and my actions. My parents and coaches always tell me that they can teach and tell me to do things, but in the end, it's me who will actually have to carry out those tasks from contacting coaches to going to hit balls in the basement. If I want to get better as an athlete, I have to take charge of my own growth. I have also learned the importance of working as a team player and not as an individual. Softball is 100% a team sport and requires support from everyone on the team. Over the years, I have learned how to pick up another teammate when they make a mistake and how to support each other. I have been attending MICDS, a college prep school, since 6th grade and while there, I have learned the importance of organization, good study habits, and how to advocate for yourself. MICDS is a very demanding school and expects a lot from their students. I have learned how to manage my time and plan out in advance. I usually have about 3 hours of homework a night, which was a huge adjustment for me when I first started, but now it seems like nothing. At MICDS, teachers want the student to come to them for help if they are struggling. If there is a problem, they want the student to advocate for their own success. This has given me the opportunity to take charge of my own learning and education. All of these traits that I have learned over the years will help me be a better team player and a great student both on and off the field.
