Softball is a big part of who I am and it has shaped my life. My dad taught me the fundamentals when I was young and my love for the game continues to grow. I love the feeling of stepping onto a freshly-prepared field as I mentally prepare myself for the game. I love the sound of my Louisville Slugger hitting the ball and the feeling in my hands when I hit a bomb. The best feeling is when a teammate, in a hitting slump, gets a good rip and everyone goes crazy in the dugout.
My most valuable asset to a team is that I’m coachable and will work hard to accomplish my goals. On the field I don’t get aggravated at myself, I try to appear calm, cool, and collected and fix my mistakes mentally. I don’t make excuses for my errors or blame them on another teammate; I own up and move on without letting it get to my head. I also have a strong “get it done” attitude. If I am struggling with something I will practice my butt off until I get it perfect. I have been a team leader and keep good relationships with my teammates. Softball has kept me grounded and focused on good life values.
The type of coach I am looking for is one who doesn’t give up on the team when times get rough. A coach should believe in the team and push each player to their maximum potential. Each player should be expected to work for their position on the field. Most importantly, I am looking for a coach who knows when to be serious and when to have a good time.
