Hi! My name is Ashley Dotey.
I have been playing softball since I was in Tee-Ball, but I started to play more competitively when I was 11 years old. My first travel team was my launching point. When I first joined I wasn't the best player, but each year I worked to get better and achieve something different. In the fall of 2013 I left my first travel team to join the Edison Angels. In the beginning of the season I was struggling because I was just getting used to playing at a higher level, but I worked all fall and winter to become a better player. In the spring of 2015, I joined the NJ Venom. In doing this, I was able to grow as a player in a very short amount of time, as I worked hard to learn to become the player I am today.
Over the years I have excelled in the classroom. I have pushed myself to be able to earn A's and B's in my honors classes. The drive I have in my schoolwork has always been transferred over to my playing ability. On the field and in the classroom I always set a goal for myself. If I am not able to reach that goal, I know that I have not worked hard enough.
Each day is a new opportunity for me to get better at what I love to do and strive to be the best I can be. Whenever I make an error or strikeout, I take a deep breath and remind myself that even the best make mistakes. I never let my mistakes effect me in a negative way, I use them to teach myself what NOT to do. I have taught myself to shake off my mistakes and pick my head up; there is no way to get better when you have a negative attitude about your ability as an athlete.
Without being able to stay positive and reach my goals, I would not be the player I have become. I strive to be a great player and stay on top of my schoolwork at the same. Everyday I work hard to become a better person on and off the field and I hope my hardwork pays off in the future.
Thanks,
Ashley
