Ever since I was little, I have been a catcher. My coach pitch coach told my parents that I was meant to be a catcher. I always thought that it was because of my height and build, but I soon came to realize what she meant. Behind the plate, you see the whole field, you are a part of every play. You are in control. That is what she meant. She knew that I would be able to step up to the plate and take control, on and off the field as an encourager to other players and giving motivation and direction as a team leader. I was able to achieve part of this goal at Bluefield State University, but now I am in search of a school and program that fits me better and has more resources for my academic and athletic success .
In 2021 I committed to Bluefield State University, after playing there for 2 years I have decided to look into other schools to continue my academic and athletic careers. I have played some version of softball since I was 4 years old. I got the honor of starting on my high school’s varsity softball team since my freshman year and was selected 1st Team All Conference my sophomore and Senior year and was named by the Cincinnati Enquirer as one of the top 100 athletes to watch my Junior year spring prior to the Covid19 ending all sports. I ended my high school career with a career batting average of .432 and an OBP of .488. I also broke my school’s season homerun record and tied the record for homeruns hit in one game. I hold myself to high standards and my looking to find a program that can push me to my greatest potential.
In high school, I was apart of BPA which stands for Business Professionals of America. We spent time throughout the school year volunteering at various events for example, the Flying Pig marathon in downtown Cincinnati. We competed in competitions with this program, which I placed first in state for prepared speech my junior year. I also volunteered with the Reds RBI Program teaching youth in the community how to play softball in their Youth At Bat Program. For my first two years of college at Bluefield State University, I was an active part of volunteering around the communit, from reading books to elementary school children to cleaning and renovating old parks.
When it comes to life outside of school and softball I am a strong extrovert. I will not shy away from going new places and trying new things. I pride myself on having the ability to confidently speak to all groups of people and handle complex situations maturely. In high school I was a part of my school’s YoungLife, which is a Christian youth group for high school students. I work my hardest to incorporate my faith into everything that I do. My senior year I attended the Southeast Cincinnati YoungLife Capernum club, which is a monthly YoungLife meeting for special needs kids. For work, I am currently a Direct Care Provider for adults with developmental disabilities. I love my job as it allows me to help care and just be a friend to people who have less opportunities to do so.
