Karsyn Shaffer '17 Recruiting Profile

As a student athlete at Greenville High School in Greenville, Ohio, I have challenged myself in the classroom and in athletics and look forward to doing the same at a four year college or university.    I believe that hard work and dedication leads to success in both areas.   I am a two sport athlete, playing softball and basketball while carrying a 4.06 GPA and focusing academically with AP and college courses through our local community college.  I am a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and a Big Brother/Big Sister volunteer. 

During my sophomore season in softball I started at second base and was successful offensively and defensively.  Our high school team plays a very competitive schedule and finished the season (28-4) as regional finalists, ranked #1 in Ohio in Division II, and ranked #23 in the USA Today Super 25 High School Softball Poll. 

I was named First Team All-GWOC North,  Ohio Southwest District All-Metro Second Team, earned "The Tab" Team Award for highest batting average (.483), and the team Defensive Player of the Year Award (.976 Fielding Percentage).  Some other accomplishments included leading the team in five offensive categories and finishing in the top 10 in those categories in the 18 team Greater Western Ohio Conference.   I also had 9-straight hits during OHSAA State Tournament play.   

My freshman year I started in the outfield where I committed just one error (.974 fielding percentage) and batted .417 in limited at bats.   Our team finished the season (25-4).  

On the basketball court where I started at point guard my sophomore year I was named Honorable Mention All-GWOC North Division and was awarded the 2015 Team Coaches Award after leading the team in points, assists, free throws, and steals. 

I am looking forward to continuing my softball career after high school at the college level where I will continue to work hard on the field and in the classroom.
