I am Samantha Shipley, a 5’4 catcher and shortstop, and I strive to play softball at the collegiate level. I started playing softball when I was seven years old and joined a competitive softball team when I was nine. I have always had a passion for softball and have considered it my number one choice. Additionally I am a varsity wrestler and cross country runner during softball’s off-season. These athletic experiences have taught me how to be a good teammate, and a strong hard-working athlete. I have worked extremely hard to make softball my main focus when playing year-round on a competitive team. For my high school team I spend all of my time behind the plate; however, for my competitive season I dominate shortstop. On top of that, I spend a lot of time working on my fielding, hitting, and speed. I am very focused on my goals as a softball player and have worked extremely hard to understand the game in order to get me where I am today.
As a student-athlete, I spend a lot of time focused on my schoolwork and grades. I want to attend a college or university that will challenge me academically and push me to the best of my ability. I would love to pursue a career in education, but am also interested in sports medicine. When I was in first grade I was put into the Talented and Gifted (TAG) program to help enhance my education and push me to always do my best. I was invited summer of Junior year to join National Honors Society (NHS), as I hold a 3.67 GPA. School has taught me important lessons that help me with my softball skills, such as being hard-working, focused, helpful, and mentally tough. In both school and softball I am at the top of my class and skill level. I am not only a strong academic candidate, but also a very hard driven, highly coachable, competitive, team player that will definitely add value to your school and your team.
