Hi, my name is Alexis Nyquist, and I would like to tell you a bit about myself. I am a sophomore at Warren Area High School in Warren, PA, where I am involved in my school and community in a variety of ways.
The reason you're reading this is because I play softball. I have been playing softball for about ten years now. Throughout my Little League experience, I began to fall in love with the game, aspiring to play in college. While playing in my first year of majors, my All-Star team placed third in the state of PA. Then, and now, I was the lead-off hitter and played shortstop. I am in my sixth year of travel softball in which I have had the privilege and joy of winning multiple tournaments with my awesome teammates. Last year, as a freshman, I started varsity as the lead-off hitter and shortstop for Warren Area HS, a AAAA team. As a team, we had a successful season going 13-7, losing a tight game 6-5. During this game I hit a grand slam with one out left in the bottom of the 7th inning. Following the season, I was named 2nd Team All-State as a freshman. Already being named a captain for my sophomore season, the bar has been set and I plan to exceed it in every aspect.
Along with playing softball, I have other passions and interests as well. When I am not on the field or in the cage, I'm on the court playing volleyball. At 5'3", I am the starting setter on both my high school varsity team and my club team, EPIC. This past season, I was 8th in the state for number of assists and was named 2nd Team All-Conference. In addition to volleyball, I am a 2nd degree black belt in Shotokan karate. although I don't practice this like I used to, I am very proud of the dedication, leadership, commitment, and discipline this sport has taught me. I have also been working with a personal trainer for two years to improve my speed, agility, and strength.
Not only do sports interest me, but I also enjoy doing volunteer work and babysitting. Last year, I joined the Enchanted Fairytale Troupe. This is a group of high school students who dress up as princes, princesses, and superheroes and visit charity events, birthday parties, and more. I had the experience of visiting UPMC Children's Hospital to brighten the day of many ill children. I also participate in multiple clubs at my high school: Student Council, Spanish Club, Battle of the Books and Varsity Club.
Last, but certainly not least, are my academics. I am proud that I always put my education first. As an eighth grader, I was able to take half of my classes at the high school, getting a head start on my high school experience. During both my freshman and sophomore years, I have taken many honors and AP classes, excelling in all of them. This year, I am taking two classes through Pittsburgh University at Bradford, Spanish III and Chemistry CP, that will count as college credits as well.
In conclusion, please know that I hope you will consider me for a spot on your team and at your school. With my leadership qualities, work ethic, and dedication to being the best I can be, I know that I can help your team be successful. As a freshman who's a 2nd Team All-State shortstop, a committed athlete who trains with a personal trainer, a 2nd degree black belt, an All-Conference volleyball player, and an Honors Student, I am confident that you will find me a best fit for you program. Thank you for your time.
