My name is Marina Shawley, I am in the graduating class of 2022 at Bald Eagle Area High School. I started my softball career when I was 9 years old, but when I was about 13 years old I became more interested in playing college softball. When I was 11, I started to play on a travel team called Centre Hailstorm. I finished off my third year with the organization as a 14u Blue player, and I moved on to Worth Prospects 16/18u. Going into my 2020 season I'm again playing with Centre Hailstorm for what will be my fourth year on their 18u team. With the help of my coaches and supportive family I continue to push myself on becoming a better softball player and person.
When I’m on the field I’m a pitcher, a first baseman, and I also play the outfield. When I’m pitching I throw a fastball, change-up, curve-ball, screw-ball, drop ball, drop curve, and I am currently working on a rise ball. I maintain a year round workout schedule that focuses not only on my softball specific skills, but also on my overall strength, agility and speed training as an athlete.
When I’m not playing travel softball, I'm working on my academics, playing softball for my school, and going to karate classes. I have been on the Distinguished Honor Roll since the 7th grade earning awards for my PSSA's and Keystone Testing. I played Jr. High Softball in 7th and 8th grade, I was a varsity starter my freshman year, and I'm currently beginning my sophomore season. In November of 2018, I passed my black belt test in Karate. I work two days a week to increase my skills and rank. I was a member of Symphonic band playing the Bass Clarinet, earning a spot in several music festivals for my school throughout the years. I am also a second year member of the Spanish Club, first year member of FBLA; extracurricular activities offered at my school. I will also be attending a trip to Costa Rica at the end of the year, with my schools World Travelers club to work with children and learn more about their culture.
I value my academics as much as sports, and I wish to major in Sports Medicine when I get to college, looking to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT). I’m not overly concerned on the division of my school, and size and location will bear very minimal in my decision making process. What matters most to me is that my college focuses on my academics as well as my softball while providing a welcoming supportive environment. Thank you for taking your time to view my profile.
