Choosing a career in Exercise Science/Sports Psychology will allow me to use the knowledge and lessons that I have learned in softball to help people improve their performance, prevent injuries and recover from injuries. Ever since I started watching college softball on television, I dreamed of playing softball in college. I thought that it would be cool to be able to inspire other young girls like me to pursue their dreams of playing softball in college someday. It doesn’t matter whether it’s strength and conditioning, hitting, fielding or pitching, I simply love the game of softball! Over the years, I have been fortunate to be able to learn a lot of positions. Although my main position is pitching, I will play anywhere the team needs me. Starting out in right field when I was ten years old when other kids thought outfield was a punishment, I remember learning the responsibilities and importance of an outfielder. As a pitcher, there’s nothing better than knowing that your defense has your back! However, there are times that things don’t go so well. We’ve all had an off day and made mistakes. As a pitcher, I’ve had to learn to work through the tough times and not get down on myself. I’ve also learned how much my team relies on me to be a leader and to keep a positive attitude not just for myself, but for my team, too. Softball has helped me learn how to recover from failure and taught me mental toughness. These are probably the most important lessons that I’ve learned on the field that I have been able to apply to my schoolwork. I take pride in my school work and it will always be my top priority. However, it doesn’t always come easy. I have to work hard to maintain my grades. I continue to look for ways to improve my grades and to be a better student on and off the field.
