Hi coaches! My name is Emily Heath and I am currently in my junior year at St. Mary Academy Bay View in Riverside, RI. I have earned a 5.01 GPA while taking mostly honors and AP courses. After receiving my undergraduate degree I plan on applying to medical school. I am in search of a school with a strong science program that will prepare me for that journey.
Ever since I was young I have worked toward my goal of becoming a collegiate athlete. My commitment to training as well as my focus and determination to reach my goals set me apart from other athletes. I train once a week with a pitching coach and in a gym with a trainer 2-3 times a week for strength, conditioning, and hitting along with practices and games with my club team, RI Fire N’ Ice Blue. Given my rigorous academic and athletic schedule I have learned to manage my time, enabling me to excel in both aspects of my life.
Since I was 10 years old, I played on a strong travel softball team. As we got older, many of my teammates moved on to other organizations, including our starting pitcher. In an effort to keep the rest of my team together, I stepped up and took on the challenge of learning how to pitch. I fell in love with pitching the day I started. I enjoy having control of the game and the challenge of competing with a batter one on one. One of the things I love most about pitching is that there are always opportunities for enhancement. Whether it is being able to learn new pitches, working to increase velocity, or mastering spin pitches, I can always work to improve in some way.
I feel as though I began to grow as a leader from a young age. I was always one of the youngest people on my team, however I did not shy away from the leadership position. I chose to lead by example by working extra hard both during practice and while training at home. This is a quality I continue to exhibit today. My hard work was acknowledged when I was elected captain of my middle school team where we won the state championship for the second year in a row. I made varsity in my freshman year of high school. Using the leadership skills I developed when I was young, I acted as a role model for my young high school team that did not consist of any seniors. I am the type of person that strives to make good choices but is sometimes a perfectionist which can become challenging as a pitcher. I know that I can use the skills I have gained over my softball career to contribute to your team as well! Thank you for your consideration!
