Personal Statement

One of my favorite things about softball is the feeling I get when I throw the perfect moving pitch -- the one that moves just as the batter is swinging -- and the joy I feel for my teammate when they hit in the winning run. I feel accomplishment for all the hours I have put in for that perfect pitch, working to get it just right. I am a very goal oriented individual and have high standards for myself, and for my teammates. I love being successful, and I love when my teammates are up there with me even more.

I have been fortunate enough to have been part of an amazing program with coaches who have helped me grow as an athlete, and teammates who have helped me grow as a person. My coaches have taught me that I have to do my job, and trust that my teammates will do their job.  My teammates have taught me the value of friendship throughout the team, and that being a team player means having fun, having laughs together, and also working together.  When it’s time to work, we get focused and do the job.  When we make mistakes, we encourage each other, and try to stay positive.

Over the last couple of years, I have come a long way as an athlete, and I continue to grow.  I am looking for a program with coaches that will encourage me and hold me and the team to high standards, both athletically and academically.

Training

  • Pitching
  • 4 years
  • EmJ went to Coach Pete Meredith's pitching clinic for almost 2 years. She worked with her High School pitching coach for one year. Currently, EmJ is taking lessons from Garrett Hone. Garrett played on the USA Junior Men's Fast Pitch team in Sydney Australia. His teams won national championships in 2009 and 2010 where he was named MVP and received first-team All-American Honors.
  • Batting
  • 3 years
  • EmJ saw BYU assistant coach Coach Kristina Delahoussaye for almost one year about twice a month. Afterwards, she saw Debbie Dodds, a BYU Alum who earned first team Mountain West Conference honors in 2004 and 2005. She has trained with Cale Sheppard who played professionally from 1997-98, and is currently being coached by Garrett Hone.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
