My name is Sydney and I live in Gainesville, Virginia. I started softball when I was 8 years old and it has always been a source of joy in my life. Softball is something that I enjoy deeper than surface level (wins, hits, recognition, etc.). I enjoy learning new plays, bettering my field awareness, and practicing new techniques. I am always ready to learn because I believe that everyone has something to improve upon.
One of my biggest role models is my previous travel team captain. She is confident in herself, but open to feedback. She also offered constructive criticism to myself and our teammates. Her confidence and care inspired me to be more confident in myself as well as help the girls on my team. This has helped me immensely. Not only does it make the game more fun, it also allows me to be a better team captain.
Separate from the field, I hold an active role in the Air Force JROTC unit at my school. I have worked my way up the chain from basic cadet to element leader to flight superintendent. In simple terms, I went from part of a small group to leading a small group to co-leading a whole class, which has taught me important lessons about leading and following. I am also in the school orchestra and I attend church regularly.
It is difficult to balance all of my activities and maintain good grades, but I am passionate about all of it, and I make it work. I would much rather have a full life than one that is lacking, and I give God the credit for my ability to do it so far. I'm looking for a school that can support me in softball as well as academics so that I can perform well in every aspect. I am a hard worker, focused on bettering myself and having a positive impact on the people around me. I am excited for the future and hope you consider me for your school!
