My name is Candace Runyon . I am a fifteen year old sophomore at Council High School. I LOVE playing softball, and working hard daily to reach my goals to become a better player. My desire is to play college softball. I have been playing the sport since I was four years old. I started learning to pitch at age 7, and have been working to get better everyday since. I also try my very best to be a leader on and off the field. Last year as a freshman I had the honor of being team captain for my softball team. As a player I always want to be an encouragement to my teammates on and off the field. A pitcher is only as good as the girls that have her back each and every game. Being a good teammate starts off the field by forming bonds with your other players. Being able to establish trust with one another, lift each other up , and know you have each other's support on and off the field.
I not only find sports to be a priority but academics as well. I try to maintain the best grades possible . I have always worked hard to be an A B Honor Roll student. I not only take the classes needed to recieve my advanced high school diploma, but I am taking several AP classes and college courses as well. I am on task to be able to finish all my required higschool classes by the end of my Junior year. If that is the case my Senior year can be devoted to taking college classes and AP classes offered online via my high-school.
I find it important to not only participate in sports but in other extracurricular activities as well. Along side being a student athlete at my school I also participate in various others clubs and activities. I am a member of the Council Lady's volleyball team, basketball team, and of course softball team. I am also member of the Upward Board College Program, FBLA, Key Club, and SOAR. Along with the many school activities I participate in I also am a member of Sullivan Branch Penrecoastal Church where I participate in my church youth group. I think being a well rounded teammate and player comes from being a well rounded individual.
Being a student athlete is not always glamorous. It takes alot of hardwork and dedication to your sport (or sports )of choice as well as dedication to your academics. It teaches you how to work hard, stay focused, and strive for your goals. I am looking forward to continuing to work toward each goal I have set for myself. I am excited to see what opportunities may become available to me if I stay focused and on task as I grow as a player and teammate both on and off the field.
