Hi my name is Shayla, I am 17 and I have been playing softball for 8 years. I started with a church softball team in Charlotte, NC and then moved to Richmond, Virginia and after about a year I started playing rec ball. I played all three years of middle school as well as keeping with my rec teams. Due to Covid we did not play during my freshman year of high school but I have played the other two years and plan to play my senior year. I can say I have not ever been without a team. Before softball I used to do competitive dance, you can say I have been in team since I was 3 years old.
I am looking for a college that is diverse and inclusive of everyone, that supports me on and off the field. Throughout my years as a softball player I have become friends with people of different cultures and backgrounds and this has open the curiosity and desire to pursue a degree in performing arts and continue on the path that will surround me with different people and cultures.
Knowing that I can be part of a college that can offer academics and softball is like getting your cake and eating it too. Softball is a community, and is an inspiration. Being on the field makes me happy.
