Personal Statement
Hello and I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
My name is Lan T. Nguyen and I am currently a sixteen year-old junior at Snohomish High School located in the small town of Snohomish, Washington. Although I attend Snohomish schools, I reside in Lake Stevens; a fairly rural town which I enjoy very much. However, in the past I have lived in urban areas such as San Diego, CA and Lynnwood, WA and enjoyed those environments as well. In essence, I can adapt well to my surroundings and therefore have no particular preference with regards to my residential surroundings.
With that said, I come from a very close knit family and enjoy being around them. I appreciate their constant support and encouragement. I have a very large extended family and have family members here in Washington, California, Pennsylvania, and Ohio; so if I were to attend a school that was a decent roadtrip away from them, then I would be able to manage.
As far as my sports, I have been playing softball for four years now and played baseball for one year previous to that. I have played on league teams, the middle school team, a travel team, and of course the high school team. I have been playing on my travel team, Snohomish Shock Goodwin, for all four years and have played on my high school team my freshman and sophomore year. I do plan on continuing to play for Snohomish High my junior and senior years. I have had experience at catcher, 2nd base, 3rd base, shortstop, and outfield. I am definitely not an experienced or coached pitcher, but have volunteered to pitch in a high school junior varsity game due to the lack of players. Overall, I could be described as a utility player.
On my travel team, 2 out of the 4 past years, the players have elected team captains and I was elected as head team captain for both seasons. I believe that I was chosen by my fellow teammates because I was highly qualified for the position. I am very hard-working, determined, responsible, respectful, and I have a good sense of leadership. I will always do what is best for the team. I find that my self-motivation, dedication, determination, and sense of respect is because of the way I was raised. My parents and culture had strict guidelines as I was growing up and it is because of them that I am who I am today; I thank them so much for that.
Not only am I hard-working physically, I am also very hard-working and serious towards my academics as well. I prioritize in such a way that I live by the following moto that I repeatedly hear from my mother: "School comes first and everything comes last." It has always been my goal as a young girl to get a 4.0 and everyday I work at that. I do not slack on my work and give full efforts into what I do. I enjoy challenges and every year when registration comes around the corner, I look into those difficult courses that nobody dares to take because "there's so much reading" or writing, or homework; just work in general. When my friends and classmates complain about these classes, I am the one who takes charge and tells them "I don't care how hard it is, I'm gonna take this class and I'm gonna ace it, too!" I believe that these classes will be more of a benefit than standard level classes.
Again, thank you so much for your time and courtesy for reading this; it is much appreciated.
