Clinics are offered as both one-on-one training and small group lessons. They provide a chance to sharpen your skills in preparation for playing in front of coaches. The format usually includes multiple stations focused on individual skills, such as base stealing, hitting, pitching, and catching. While colleges do offer clinics, athletes can also find clinics close to home for a low fee.
It really depends on your goals. Clinics are usually shorter, more affordable and focused on skill-building, so they’re ideal for sharpening specific parts of your game in just a few hours. Camps, however, can give you that extra edge by offering exposure to college coaches, which can be important for your recruiting journey. It’s all about whether you want to focus on skills or gain visibility!
Athletes can find a clinic for any of the nine softball positions. Some of the most common clinics are for hitting, pitching, and catching. Clinics will focus the entire session on drills that will help athletes improve position-specific skills.
The main goal of attending a softball clinic should be to improve position-specific skills to help your game and, in turn, your recruiting process. Athletes can implement the skills they develop in these sessions during competitions, camps and showcases when college coaches are present.
Insider Tip: Softball clinics are the perfect time to update your skills video! As you work through drills like hitting, pitching and fielding, ask a parent or friend to film from the sidelines. You’ll capture great footage of your technique in action!
Clinics are offered as both private and group sessions, and typically cost between $30-$100. Athletes will also be able to find clinics offered in packages (i.e. 4 sessions for $60), giving you the most bang for your buck.
