Hello, my name is Kiara Burnell, I am in the graduating class of 2024 and I am from Barrow, Alaska. I'm 5'1 but my love for the game is bigger than that, which makes me a very versatile player. Along with my speed, ability to finish and pass the ball, my court vision is great as well. I have never had problems in terms of my height, because with my speed, it helps me get past bigger defenders to get to the rim. I am very big on court spacing and creating room for all players on my team to be able to work with the ball. Although scoring is one of the main things I do on the court, I am an extremely good defender. I did not have a freshman year due to covid, but my sophomore year I led in points, was on the all-tourney team for our 3A state tournament, and my team also won state that year. Despite sitting out half of my junior year due to injury, I led in points, made the all-tourney team for our 3A state tournament, and I made 3rd team all-state.
In terms of character, I am a great leader, I'm very humble, and I'm very compassionate about the sport. I'm very big on trust within the team and being able to trust that one-another will make decisions that will benefit everyone. I am coachable and always open to bettering myself, as well as my teammates.
My academics throughout school have been great, I have carried a 4.0 every year since middle school. I have been taking college courses since the beginning of my junior year (passed those with A's) and I am ranked #1 academically in my school since my freshman year. I am looking to further my education in the medical field, with the end goal of being a pediatrician. If I have the opportunity to play basketball while pursuing this degree that would be a huge bonus, as I have both the academic and athletic strength to do so.
If you're reading this and have made it this far, feel free to reach out to me. Thank you.
