My name is Sadie Alexander. Basketball has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing basketball when i was five years old, and haven’t taken a year off since. I have played on my high school’s varsity team all four years; claiming honorable mention my freshman year, all-league my sophomore year, and co-MVP my junior year. My junior year I was 2nd in Northern California for 3pt shots made with 76. This also ranked me 27th in the entire state for all divisions. I shot 39% from the 3 last season. I am a great passer with good court awareness. And I love assisting people to score. More of my achievements can be viewed on this website. However, defense has always been one of my favorite moments in a game. My team(s) have always relied on me to be our “lock-down” defender. I don’t get intimidated easily. If I have the opportunity to guard the “best girl on a team,” my competitive spirit swells. That’s when I begin to make my individual goals for the next game. (I won’t let that girl score more than 5 points, or I’ll never let her get by me; she isn’t even going to make it to the key.) But most importantly I strive to be consistent in my reputation as a good teammate, a coach-able player, and a respectable competitor. My freshman year I was a lot smaller then I am now; however, that didn’t stop me from containing the fire and excitement that was burning inside of me. I wasn’t nervous to tryout for the varsity team at all! I just wanted to play basketball. I just wanted to do the thing I loved. Later on, during my junior year, I served as one of my team’s captains. In doing so, I learned how to demonstrate unity, and important character qualities to my teammates. My coaches have always noted me as a “calm, level-headed” player that brings a sense of control to the game.
After every game or practice, my team gives one another fist pumps or “knuckles.” This is how we remember that we are united. Our hand is much stronger when our fingers are made into a fist. The five fingers represent the players on the court. When they work together to form one, they will be stronger than ever. But if one player decides to come loose from the group, the team can easily come unraveled later on. For me, UNITY stands for Unite, Never Give Up, Integrity, Toughness (mental or physical), and You (it all starts with your decisions.) I believe that unity of the team is the most important aspect of any sport.
Furthermore, I have participated on my high school’s track team for 3 years, and plan to finish out my last year. I hold my school’s 100M record, and 200M record. I am a 5’6 point guard/shooting guard. Hoping to chat with some of you! Thank you for your consideration. Take care!
