Personal Statement

Playing basketball has taught me a lot about myself and my character. Starting with the fact that in the game of basketball, you can't do it yourself, it requires unselfishness and sacrifice. Since starting to play basketball, I have sacrificed and put others before myself more than I have ever before. I moved away from my home and my peers to provide myself with a better opportunity elsewhere because of my love for the game. Basketball has taught me that nothing is given to you and can be taken away at any moment in time. I have been on both ends of the stick; riding the bench and being the star. Playing both sides really gives you perspective on what you as a player need to get to the next level and what the other players have that you don't possess. The questions: Why should I choose her over you? What makes you special?, have shaped me into the player I am and have been motivation for me throughout my career.  I am the player who would rather have 10 assists rather than 10 points. I have learned over time that there are so many different ways to impact the game. I'm looking for a program that not only fits me athletically but also academically. Being a student-athlete has taught me so much about myself and what I am willing to sacrifice. I believe that I not only have the talent for your program, but the attitude and selflessness, yet effective, character that can impact your team.
