Hello Coaches
My name is Markylla Dawn Jones, I've played basketball since the 7th grade and fell in love with the sport. I love the competitiveness and challenges to it, plus everyone on the team including our coaches become family. Brad Wright, has been my coach since 7th grade, had a few different coaches in the summer. But I've always listened and took something new from each them all.
My days, when I don't have practice I like to take my dog out for a run or go to the park and listen to my music while I shoot my free throws. I help my grandparents, by wood hauling, shearing sheep, chopping wood with my dad or cleaning the yard with my mom. I'm always doing something on weekends, which is never a dull moment for me. But everyday, I'm always touching the ball, even if it's just laying on my bed and tossing the ball up, aiming for a certain spot, working on some technique that would help my game.
Growing up, my parents played sports. I've watched them play, rather it be in city leagues or tournaments. I had the luxury of watching and picking up small techniques. Now, they have 5 kids to raise, I'm being the 2nd oldest, their focus turned to myself and my 3 younger siblings.
I love playing sports, rather it be volleyball, softball, soccer, or even golf. But my main sport is basketball, the movement, the team, the commitment, the smell of the ball and the gym. I like to challenge myself, and learn new things each time I play. My team and coaches become my family.
My parents were my first teachers, they introduced me to the game of basketball. My family are my biggest supporters, and my heritage helped guide me to be a strong Diné (navajo) individual and to stay focus, and humble. I'd like to be apart of your team, to grow and to become someone bigger and better from the help of you.
