My name is Amaya, and I have been playing basketball since elementary school. I joined AAU travel basketball in 7th grade and have since dedicated myself to improving my skills and contributing to my team. This past junior high season was a significant milestone in my basketball journey. I earned an Honorable Mention award and was invited to participate in the All-Star playoff game, which reinforced my drive to keep improving and excelling.
I currently play for the Smith Basketball Academy’s AAU team, based in Southeast Connecticut. One of my favorite aspects of basketball is winning the tip-off, which allows my team to immediately set a play and create positive momentum right from the start of the game. I enjoy the challenge of being a strategic player who can help energize my team and set the tone for the rest of the game.
In addition to basketball, I’m excited to be starting track this year. I will be competing in the 100-meter race and throwing javelin, with the possibility of participating in other events as well. I enjoy the challenge of competing in multiple sports, as it helps me build discipline, versatility, and a well-rounded athletic skill set.
I consider myself to be very coachable and open-minded, always eager to learn and improve. I take my academics and sports very seriously, with a strong dedication to my education and a clear focus on attending a college that not only has a competitive basketball program but also excels academically. Along with basketball, I am actively involved in my school’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club and Student Council, where I develop leadership skills and a strong work ethic.
Above all, the most important thing in my life, apart from basketball, is spending quality time with my family. Their unwavering support drives me to push harder every day, and I know that they will always be by my side as I continue to strive for excellence both on and off the court.
I am eager to take the next step in my athletic and academic journey, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to a college team that values both athleticism and academic achievement.
