When I entered freshman year, I expected to get little to no playing time in varsity basketball games. When the season began, my coach pulled me aside and told me that I could potentially be the best female basketball player that has gone through Windsor Locks High School. From that point on, I committed myself to basketball. My confidence in myself grew and I spent countless hours training for the game I grew to love. That same year, my coach stopped practice and asked the team to raise their hands if they felt relief when the ball was in my hands. Everyone on the team raised their hands, including the seniors whom I looked up to as role models.
From that point on, I never doubted myself and challenged myself to do what I thought was the impossible. I looked at myself as a leader and someone my teammates and coaches could rely on and trust. My attitude is focused on what I can do to help my team to succeed, not on what I can do for myself. I pride myself on my attitude, character, and selflessness and would consider them my most rewarding strengths I bring to the table.
