When I started playing basketball in 6th grade, I instantly fell in love with the game. In both high school and AAU, I have had coaches that were committed to my development and gave me opportunities to improve. I pride myself on my work ethic, and since both of my parents work at Wilmington Christian School, I always have access to our gym and weight room and take advantage of the ability to work out at any time throughout the year. I have enjoyed being on the Athletic Culture Team at school, and I realize how important a good culture is in order to be a successful team. At WCS we focus on being 1) faithful, 2) prepared, 3) competitors, and 4) family. As a captain this past year I think my most important contribution to the culture was my competitive spirit. We had a young team, and I tried to help them in terms of being prepared for every game, and then teaching them to expect to perform to their best in every game. My coach described me as someone who never shied away from a situation, always wanted to take the shot, and always wanted to guard the other team's best player. In a conference that has produced division I players, I was voted 2nd team all-conference this past year as a junior.
Besides basketball, I have also lettered in field hockey each of my three years of high school and was voted 2nd team all-conference my sophomore and junior years, and during my junior year I led our team in goals.
I have been recognized by the DIAA as a scholar athlete, meaning I have maintained above a 3.5 GPA during every season in which I earned a varsity letter. I have always been on the honor roll at school, am a member of the National Honor Society, and I am taking dual enrollment courses as well. During the summers I have worked at the local Boys and Girls Club as a camp counselor. I love working with young kids, and particularly love the opportunity to work with them during the basketball camps that BGC hosts.
I feel like I have made tremendous progress as a player, particularly between my sophomore and junior years, but I know I have not yet come close to my potential. I will continue to work hard to develop both my basketball skills, and my leadership skills and I look forward finding a school that is the right fit for me to accomplish my goals.
