I started studying martial arts when I was 3 years old and discovered my love of basketball in 6th grade. I knew from that point on that I wanted to play basketball in college and beyond. I have always worked hard as a student and as an athlete. Through Tae Kwon Do I learned discipline at a very early age and through archery have learned focus and concentration. Basketball provides me the opportunity to contribute these skills as part of a team. I have grown up learning that although winning is the overall goal, it is not everything. If I give 120% all the time, I have nothing to be ashamed of, win or lose.
Driven by my competitive spirit, I have had a lot of success in all that I have done. Likewise, I also know how to handle myself in defeat. This season my team is in a rebuilding mode, with 10 players ranging from seniors to 6th graders. As one of the captains, my job has been to mentor and teach the younger, newer players and to encourage the returning players to continue developing their skills. Ultimately the measure of my success in this season will be the number of players who return next season because of their love of the game.
As a college athlete my goal is to assist my team in whatever ways needed, whether it is as a 4-year starter or coming off the bench to give the starters a breather. I want to continue my life as a basketball player and do all I can to become the best person I can be, on and off the court. I am a hard working student athlete and the student part comes first. I balance AP and Honors courses with basketball and archery, while maintaining a high GPA. I plan to get my PhD in Sports Psychology and I will choose my college not only for athletics but also, more importantly, for academics.
I may not be the most conventional college basketball prospect, but I will work as hard as needed to become the player my team needs me to be. I have always been coachable and have been blessed with many great coaches throughout the years. I am not looking for a certain type of school or program just as long as I know I am in the right place and am surrounded by people who are going to help me reach my full potential as a student, an athlete, and a person.
