My name is Laura Frances Willis and I began playing basketball when I was 10 years old. However, it wasn't until Covid hit in 2020 and the world momentarily seemed to stop that I really fell in love with the game of basketball. I used my new found free time to work daily on my dribbling, quickness, and shooting. I set short term goals and created workouts for myself to do each afternoon once my school work was completed. It was during this time that I developed a desire to play basketball at the collegiate level.
I am highly motivated and have a strong work ethic. I am extremely coachable, can handle criticism well, and serve as a leader on the court for my team. I pride myself in being a student of the game! On the court, I believe my high basketball IQ sets me apart from my competitors. I have a strong court vision and do what it takes to help my team score, whether that is taking the shot myself or setting my teammate up for a better look at the basket. Defensively, I am quick and aggressive. As a freshman, I led my Varsity team in steals, deflections, charges taken, as well as overall efficiency points.
I work hard to improve my basketball skills by not only participating in high school basketball, but also travel ball throughout the spring and summer months. I currently play for Adidas 16U 3SSB Team Elite Hubbard and I have really enjoyed the program and the level of competition. In addition to basketball, I also run track to help with my speed, quickness, and endurance. My 4x800 relay team placed 2nd at the Georgia state meet and my 4x400 relay team managed to finish 6th place. Both event times shattered school records, with the 4x800 breaking a state record as well!
I fully recognize the importance of succeeding both on and off the court. In the classroom, I work hard to maintain all As in advanced content and AP classes. I am also actively involved with my church, both as a discipleship group member and volunteer.
If given the opportunity to play college basketball, I will continue to push myself to be the best player I can be. Ultimately, I want to find the college that best suits me academically and affords me the opportunity to play at the highest level possible.
