Hi, my name is Skyla Jones. I am from Lithonia, Georgia. My qualities are accountability, leadership, sportsmanship, never giving up, showing up and performing every day. My academic goal for my first year in college is to maintain a GPA of 3.6 or higher.
I have been fortunate to grow through challenges and opportunities that have shaped me into a resilient competitor and a dedicated teammate. When I tore my ACL in the summer of my 11th-grade year, I was not able to play my 12th-grade season in high school, but in the summer, I was able to be an assistant coach of a third-grade team and coach alongside my AAU Coach Jack, helping him draw up plays and choosing the starting lineup. This influenced my life by giving me a chance to see basketball from a different point of view. I learned a lot watching basketball and coaching basketball.
In addition to my dedication to athletics, I strongly emphasize academics. Balancing rigorous coursework with intense training schedules has taught me time management and perseverance. I am proud of my ability to prioritize my responsibilities while maintaining a positive attitude. Through years of playing basketball, I learned I always love pushing myself out of my comfort zone, from tearing my ACL during my 11th-grade year of high school to playing college basketball as a freshman in college. These experiences have shaped me into a resilient individual who embraces challenges and strives for excellence on and off the court.
Beyond athletics and academics, I strive to contribute to my community. I enjoy mentoring younger athletes at AAU camps, where I teach them the fundamentals of the game and the importance of sportsmanship. These opportunities have allowed me to foster meaningful connections and inspire others to pursue their passions with dedication and integrity.
My goal is to continue growing as an athlete and a student at the collegiate level. I am eager to bring my passion, dedication, and drive to a program that shares my commitment to excellence. I look forward to contributing to a team while pursuing my academic and athletic dreams. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me. I am excited about possibly contributing to your program and becoming part of a community that values hard work, discipline, and success.
