Basketball means a lot to me, the first reason why my mom played basketball all the way up to college. I am the youngest of 4 kids, none of my older siblings played basketball. I fell in love with the sport right away, and I also felt more close and connected with my mom because I play and love the sport she fell in love with as well (that’s why I am the favorite kid). The second reason why basketball means so much to me is because it has taught me some important life lessons. I have learned how to manage my time, to balance out school work, practice and my job, and figuring out when I need to leave or to get my homework done. I have also learned how to work with people who have all different personalities whether we liked each other or not, still doing what we need to on the court and doing it together. It has also taught me how to be a leader. I have learned how to be excited and hype for my teammates and how to help the new or confused girls in a play or drill. I have learned to be there for them on the court, but also off the court if they ever needed anything. I love to see my teammates succeed, there was a time in 5th grade where there was a girl on my team who didn't score the whole season. So, on the last game I did everything I could to get her the ball for an open shot and I can still remember how it felt when I saw her make the shot. I can remember jumping up and down being so happy for her. Another thing I have learned from basketball is how to control myself. I love to joke around, have lots of fun and to laugh until I pee my pants, but when it is game time, it is time to be serious. It’s time to work hard and to do all I can to get the win.
