Hi, my name is Nya Jones and I am a 5’8 guard. What makes me special is that I am an all-around player with good basketball IQ. My goals for basketball are to continue to learn and grow as a player. I have played for one of the strongest high school basketball programs in the country, Montini Catholic High School and Glenbard South High School. I attended Carthage College my freshman year of college, and have currently transferred to College of Dupage.
I love the game of basketball and started playing in fourth grade. At the time, I was tall for my age and trained as a post player. I have never forgotten those skills. Not only am I a good rebounder and quick, my specialties are also driving to the basket, defense, shooting and free throws. When we run plays, my coach knows I can run every position. I have played every position on the court, At Carthage I was a guard, either a 2 or 3. I can run point if needed too as well. I currently play point, shooting guard, or small forward.
As a player, my favorite part of the game is defense. As they say, “Offense wins games, but defense wins championships.” Defense is important to me because it comes natural and helps stop a team from scoring. One defensive stop can give you a possession and win a game.
I just found out my season at College of Dupage has been canceled, but I will be posting videos every couple of weeks of me practicing and training. Thank you for reading my personal statement and I hope to hear from you soon.
